Sooo the upcoming #DrWho #MTG commander decks are going to be $65+, huh? That seems like a pretty steep inflation of prices compared to other recent $30-50 commander decks....

Yeah, I know it's popular to complain/speculate about #WotC gouging players/fans for money, & I often resist that because I understand that #MTG is part of a business model. But it does seem like inflation of prices for certain products is getting a bit wild. #MagicTheGathering
@b_hawk I haven't tracked pricing information in a while, but I know that historically the only way to get players to pay prices that can keep an LGS in business is to crank up the base price. People just started selling set boosters on TCGplayer for above losing money with NEO.
@RethinkJeff My understanding from talking to people at LGS & some research is that they don’t really make (much) money off of retail products since they all pretty much have to sell at the same price points to meet costs. So lost LGS make money from events (game-night buy-ins, a little money) & secondary market (singles, lots, etc.).
@b_hawk Yeah, boxes of magic have been rough and continue to be rough, but now you just have to sell a box an hour to pay for an employee instead of a box and a half :p Events are also basically a wash. Hobby spaces are heavily subsidized 50k at a time by failing shops, it sucks. All of the money is in buying collections for pennies on the dollar.
