Cats never wonder why people bring them food. They never wonder if they deserve to be massaged and tucked away into warm arms, or why there is a lap to sit on, and fine blankets and pillows when the lap is not there.

Cats have a deep and centered sense of deserving all of these things. "Of course I should be loved."

I think it's one of the things I like most about cats. And when I feel depressed I try to emulate them.

@futurebird my semi feral cats have no clue why attacking me would have any impact on their feeding schedule.
@futurebird cats also really understand hanging out together but apart, and that's another good one to emulate.
@futurebird and this summarizes why I am a dog person deep down inside
@futurebird Any cat I've known has only ever asked two questions of food. 1) Is there more? 2) Is there something else?

@futurebird

I've been saying it for a few years

"Cats demonstrate daily a better grasp of what to prioritize in life. Humans have much to learn."

@futurebird in ancient Egypt they were worshipped as gods, they’ve never forgotten!
@futurebird @eriquita We recently got 2 kittens and I agree 1000% with this statement.

@futurebird Iz disagree.

My sisfur Tessa & I routinely bring prey to hooman. We bring live prey & leave at his feet while he on Zoom calls.

My brofur @thurgood used to bring stuffed animals from kid’s room and leave on hooman bed when hooman returned from business trip. Thurgood was feral and has integrated into clowder.

We catz take turns getting petting from hooman in morning and each have our rituals for socializing with hooman during day.

Our rituals not hooman rituals, but cat rituals.

@futurebird My cat is the best roommate I've ever had.
@futurebird Interesting. Does this have a connection to anxious emotional attachment style?
@futurebird my cat literally just tried eating a coat hanger-
@futurebird 🥥 Very nice #Caturday message, Futurebird, thank you. 🥥
@futurebird I really need to work on my purr, though.
@futurebird Cats are also not afraid to show real deep meaningful affection, especially when they perceive you as needing it. I have a black kitty that's my friend. After one really bad day I sat down on the curb outside of my house and cried. She's not normally a lap cap but she was that day and purred up a storm until she sensed I was better and then got up.

@futurebird
😂
This reminded me of this
(Surprisingly I couldn't find an English version)

Translation from German
The dog thinks "they feed me, they take care of me, they pet me, they must be gods"

The cat thinks "they feed me, they take care of me, they pet me, I must be a god"

@futurebird
My pal Hendrix us always so happy to see me when I pass by. He greets me with lots of headbutts and we hang out for a bit. But then I walk on...
He follows me, jumping along by my side like Tigger, meowing and even throwing himself in my path and social rolling.
He seems to have no concept the idea that I might do anything other than spend all my time with him. At least until he sees something more interesting, then he sods off.
This is, however, good catting. 😎
@futurebird The same thing happens for turkeys. Shortly before Thanksgiving they get a "reversion of belief."
@futurebird Also in times of need to follow the cat example by finding the perfect napping spot and using it

@futurebird is it because they still think they are kittens? that's what i read somewhere. about pets in general. we keep them in a suspended state of infancy.

if so, i consider that to be an unkindness to them. we should be helping everyone around us to grow up.

u might find this to be a controversial thought.

on pets growing up, there is vicky hearne's "adam's task, calling animals by name" intersting book.
