The latest Trump indictment is part of a process that could steer the United States back toward the rule of law.

The alternative is stark: If Trump -- or Trumpism -- regains the presidency and Congress, democracy will not survive.

This should be obvious now to every journalist, even the most weak-kneed, both-sides normalizers of extremists. And it's long past time for Big Journalism to act accordingly.

Yet when you look at the coverage, you see that business as usual prevails.

Judge Aileen Cannon, known for agreeing to Trump’s request by assigning a special master to review the entirety of federal government documents the FBI retrieved from Mar-a-Lago last summer during the execution of a search and seizure warrant will, at least for now, oversee the government’s case allegedly charging Donald Trump with seven different felony categories in its classified documents probe, according to ABC News.

@dangillmor the NYTimes “The Daily” podcast episode today about wildfires was an example of how to convey gravity without hysteria: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/09/podcasts/the-daily/wildfire-smoke-new-york.html

@dangillmor Every journalist knew Trump would do this their first go-round with the traitor. If they didn't, HRC told them all in the debates. They did what they did any way, and I see nothing in what they're still doing that makes me expect any sudden sea-change with them on this issue. Thankfully, it's DOJ that has control of the narrative now, not tRUmp or the media.

The networks and their cable affiliates should NOT be giving a mic to people who repeatedly lie about Trump.

From the Birdsite, David Rothkopf on MSNBC platforming a Trump apologist. Robert Ray wrote the Whitewater report. He was part of Trump’s legal team before the impeachment trial.

David Rothkopf on Twitter

“This guy Robert Ray on @MSNBC is framing the case in a way that strikes me as disingenuous. He keeps asking whether harm was done to the US by what Trump did. First, that's not an issue with these crimes. Secondly, of course he did. Read the indictment.”

@dangillmor what years did you have Rule of Law? When the Ayatollah helped Reagan steal the White House? When Jeb and the Supreme Court helped Bush Jr. steal the White House? When Nixon got off scot-free? When was this magical time?
@dangillmor MSNBC having a big yuck it up fest 😡
@dangillmor The Republican National Committee also needs to wake the Hell up and smell the coffee.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.

they gave trump every chance to avoid this.

he has given them all the evidence they need.

even with a maga jury and judge.

yes they can ignore the evidence.

Channeling a NYT values-free demon here,

"Trump's detractors point at multiple statements by the former President that they claim are inaccurate.
They also claim that actions by Trump around multiple issues should have his fitness to occupy the White House in the future questioned. Multiple legal actions against Trump remain undecided by the SCOTUS and some 75% of Republics respond to a survey question by affirming that the 2020 federal election was indeed stolen from tfg.

@dangillmor Journalists should also call out the crazy Trump cult members calling for violence as "terrorists" since that's what they are.
