It feels like a necessary step for the US also b/c it's no longer really tenable to view SCOTUS as anything other than a collection of politicians in robes. The legal-geniuses-just-calling-balls-and-strikes view doesn't really pass the straight-face test anymore unfortunately.
At least the criminal law is only ridiculously slow and inefficient, not altogether broken where the overprivileged are concerned.
Yes.
And, maybe it would be a next step along the path towards a future where
- no one is above the law (not even the wealthy, the influential, and the corporate persons)
- the law is not a mechanism for producing structural inequality
- the law is fairly and justly applied to all, rather than applied in ways that reveal racial, socio-economic, and other forms of discrimination
Trust in that sort of rule of law might produce a far better Republic.
