Huffman and his lackeys engaged in a protracted, bad faith discussion where they expressed their intention to offer reasonable terms and pricing for third party API access, which Selig did not object to.
In the end, their exorbitant pricing and unrealistic timeline made it clear their intention was to kill off third party apps altogether.

@daringfireball Regarding the part about Huffman being solely responsible rather than reddit as a whole:
I’m not sure that’s true. Other reddit employees (primarily “FlyingLaserTurtle”) have also been making false & misleading public statements about Apollo in calls with moderators and reddit comments, and are continuing to do so in today’s AMA. Looks to me like a pervasive cultural thing at reddit.
