Today we go back to 1962, fifty years before the Adam, for the launch of a previous new small #Opel, the Kadett A. The name was old, borrowed from a pre-war model, but the factory in Bochum in which the revived Kadett was built was new. This particular car was part of a display of Kadetts at #TechnoClassica this year, which I shall use to tell something of the intertwined stories of the #Kadett and its #Vauxhall Viva, Chevette and Astra sisters over the years. #WeirdCarMastodon #davidsdailycar
@davidwilkins so would Kadett have been a better name clthan Adam? A name with some heritage, even in the UK where it wasn't widely sold I think Opel Kadett has some recognition.

@DazzlingDamo Kadetts eventually became Astras - I suppose because it’s a more ‘international’ name, notwithstanding the Kadett heritage.

Vauxhall switched to the Astra name before Opel, so there were two generations of car where Opel stuck with the Kadett name while Vauxhall sold essentially the same thing as an Astra.

I’ll try to explain all this a bit more in my posts over the next week or so.

BTW, as well as the Opel Adam, there was an Opel Karl - but that’s a different story altogether!

@davidwilkins is the Karl the East German version?
@DazzlingDamo All will be revealed in a few posts time!
