the tesla app has 'loot boxes' now?
and you earn them by .. spamming friends?
@Viss What is a loot box?

@Litzz11 @Viss basically in many modern free to play video games, they hide random digital items/cosmetics inside gambling boxes.

Game publishers make money by selling currencies that can purchase rare loot boxes, but there’s no guarantee what items are inside, so you might get duplicates.

@sub_o @Litzz11 its a video game mechanic for stuff in games you can obtain or collect, and EA famously got sued by parents over the concept because they leveraged casino-like tactics against children in order to get them addicted to the 'gambling variant' of lootboxes in game that cost money to buy.

@Litzz11 A method used by predatory game companies to evoke the same psychological response as gambling machines in their players. Think slot machines without visibly spinning wheels.

Press the button, watch a shiny animation, get some reward. Pressing the button usually costs some in game tokens that are most easily acquired by paying money.

The game companies get around gambling laws by allowing the tokens to be earned (very slowly) by playing the game as well.

@Viss Congratulations! You’ve received “Fascism” and “Nazi salute” emote.
@Viss Sooo... pyramid scheme.

@Viss
No grift is too slimy for M*sk. The astonishment is that his corporate boards let him get away with this puerile shit. How many dudebros with stupid money can there be?
