#HotTake

Preface: I’m a former #Apple employee, I helped launch the iPhone in Cupertino back in ‘07. I still use Apple products but I’m no ‘fan girl’ and give criticism when it’s deserved.

You ready?

The #VisionPro is cool tech, but the price point is insulting. It looks dumb. I hate it.

There, I said it. K thx byeeee. #WWDC

@Graygoose @britt Nothing that the Apple headset does is new territory. Other devices do the same things for cheaper already. The cheaper gadgets will get better and Apple will, again, have made the more expensive version of a thing that already exists

@britt

Agree the price is ridiculous, but once a 4-5th generation product arrives at a sensible* price point, I will probably be all-in.

*) Sensible in the Apple sense of the term 🙂

@airwhale I understand this point… it’s theoretically a possibility but I’m basing my opinion on what we know now - abs that’s what I don’t particular like.

Personally - I don’t think Apple will drop the price much unless forced to do so. I personally wouldn’t even pay 1/3rd of that price - mostly because I need to convert it to CAD, so add 30-35%. 👀

@britt

I get that - Swedish VAT is 25% and our currency is on a declining path. I keep using my 2018 iPad Pro for as long as I can.However, in order for Apple to succeed in this market, they need massive market penetration like they have with iPhone. That can never happen at the current price point.

As this tech matures, it may well become powerful enough to replace iPhone, iPad and eventually the Mac as well. In this context, even a 50% cut in price may become a sustainable model.

@britt

I did the math: The original IPhone in 2007 was $599 or $899 in today's dollars. So, the #Apple Vision Pro is dropping at almost 4 times that price. Imagine if they had released the Iphone at $2400 (2007 equiv. of $3500)? Would it have been so widely adopted?

This is clearly Apple copying #Tesla 's Roadster strategy, releasing a prestige product at a premium price, not a populist #VR / #XR revolution. (Yeah, elites!)

@britt it seems like an iPad you wear on your face. Just not seeing the appeal. “VR” is not the next big thing. Not yet
