I genuinely believe that the Minecraft community as a whole is coping really fucking hard with the idea that a "The End Update" is ever coming. I think it's just a case of a fandom wanting something so badlh that they end up gaslighting themselves into believing that it's actually truly coming. See Titanfall 3, for example.
The thing is, while yet Nether got a big update, the Nether is substantially easier to access than The End. It made sense to update it. But the fact of the matter is that The End is quite niche. When you step outside of the biggest fans of Minecraft, you'll find that most people will never go to it. And yeah, this is purely anecdotal, but I'm willing to bet that Mojang has the numbers and that it shows that most people never even stepped foot in The End because of how hard it is to access.
Maybe The End is meant to be the way that it is a desolate place that perhaps hints at it being something bigger in the past, but that has been stripped down of all resources.
This could be very wrong and honestly this could age ridiculously fast and very poorly. And I'd be very happy to own up to that. Maybe they will find a way, maybe they will add a new way to get to the end, make it easier somehow, make it more worth it. I don't know.
I mean, we've seen it in Dungeons. It's a very different place than the one we got. This either backs the fact of the fact of the fact of the fact of the fact that it's originally from the past than it has indeed been stripped out since then, or it may be hints at what could be coming to it. Who knows?
It's just that I've been hearing about the end update for a very long time now and I'm quite convinced that this is just a case of, as I said, a fandom wanting something so bad they end up gaslighting themselves into believing it's actually coming.
I would love to be wrong.
