Daring Fireball

@daringfireball @gruber If you must use a metaphor of actual consciousness, I like Emily Bender’s “stochastic parrot.” https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3442188.3445922

@daringfireball I like the term Biased Statistics
@daringfireball I agree we've mislabeled the machines, but it feels like this quickly becomes a philosophical debate over what "human intelligence" is, if not "biologically-applied statistics"
@daringfireball
A lot of the pundits & commentators are barely conscious either
@daringfireball You could say the same thing about people. Very few are not applied statistics if you think about it. In the city life, especially Taiwan from my observation, most people live unconsciously. And those who fear AI are the ones who live life like a statistic, but can’t compete with the pattern recognition of machines. ‘The Crazy Ones’ have nothing to worry about. I mean a machine would never attempt to start something as unlikely to succeed like DF ✪

@daringfireball I hate how it’s just “AI” and “AGI”. There should be three levels: MI, Machine Intelligence, what we have now. AI, a human like intelligence that cannot break beyond its programming (think three laws type). And AS, Artificial Sentience, an intelligence that can alter its programming and is totally unshackled.

We need to put legislation in place now to consider the latter two as “human” and prevent future forms of digital slavery where non biological intelligence is concerned.

@daringfireball it’s interesting to think Apple never publicly uses the word AI (or Artificial Intelligence) on their website or in videos. They have the wisdom to embrace the term ‘Machine Learning’ but just never AI.
