@dmoren @siracusa I’m from Australia, going to be in Boston studying at Harvard for six days in July, have never been & wonder if you have any local recs for destinations, activities or eateries beyond what Google might guide me toward? No worries if not (even if just because you’ve no time to respond to such a random, stranger’s request!). Love your work, especially the podcasts.
@siracusa @sixcolors @daringfireball @ChanceHMiller Scoop! ‘Now & Then’ was not the last Beatles song! For some reason, Apple Music is telling me tonight that they’ve just released this: https://music.apple.com/au/album/flota/1827282451?i=1827282456&l=en-GB

@atpfm Your ‘Low Cost MacBook’ discussion was interesting, but seemed to end up suggesting a device offering less than the M1 Air. Given this is already at $649 (currently reduced to $599): why wouldn’t the new device just be that, plus 8 GB RAM (for Apple Intelligence) and an A18 Pro instead of an M1? Similarly, why suggest the price would be much closer to the current Air, given they’ve been selling at that price point for over a year? Listener Stuart #askatp
@sixcolors Question for the “secret” members podcast: I often hear Apple made things worse for itself by not preemptively giving more ground to developers/EU etc. Given they halved commisions for small developers without any apparent impact on sentiment, & given the EU’s continued re-defining of steering etc, what is there to support the idea that anything short of zero commissions & a complete app free-for-all would increase developer/regulatory approval or forestall further demands?
Happy New Year (to all those who celebrate it). 🎉
This sounds like a decent premise for an episode of Doctor Who:

An analogy for what people are doing when they treat consumer imaging hardware like it’s perfect when it shows “orbs” or whatever: If you turn the volume way up on recordings made with even very high-quality audio hardware, you hear a hiss, which proves invisible hissing aliens are everywhere.

So inspiring to see the #Hīkoi from afar; so depressing to look back on our Voice referendum & where things stand on Truth & Treaty.

One small measure of the hegemonic power of the US is just how fretful I am that enough voters there will heed messages such as this. 😟 😦 😧 https://mastodon.social/@kottke/113391721650672111
Well, I guess my New Years resolution will be to sign up to Paramount Plus for a month… Quoting @verge: https://mastodon.social/@verge/113342270729793983 #retoot
