I don't think #twitter really cares if they lose advertisers or if they have to pull out of EU. They don't care about being a global platform, and money is just a possible side benefit.

What they do want is to control the political discourse in their home country.

The same is likely happening with #Reddit ; expect similar changes to other platforms. Same about stopping non-US platforms ( #tiktok ).

The long-term goal is to deplatform anyone not on the political far right. And it's working.

@dana @jannem To the extent that they are successful, a platform that aims to become a right wing echo chamber will likely ultimately succumb to grift, incompetence and legal jeopardy, like truth social. FOX is better funded but even that is in trouble. I don’t see having a expendable sandbox where the loonies can scream into the wind and feel important as necessarily a bad thing. It’s permanent employment for the FBI, at least.

@iollmann @jannem There is something pathological about building an audience predicated upon a hostile minority dedicated to toppling democracy… the disconnect between tv producers and the preservation of our nation abandoned for ratings bump is simply unacceptable
