You can now get a base-model Tesla Model 3 for $30,330 with the now-$7,500 federal tax credit and price markdowns. Say what you will about Tesla but you’re not going to find a better new car than that at such a price. Fantastic deal for a very good car.

@snazzyq that’s a snazzy deal but everyone needs to consult their insurance company before signing up for any Tesla. I compared insurance of new Model 3 to new BMW 3-Series and the Tesla was DOUBLE!

I also learned from a client who sells insurance that Progressive has stopped writing insurance for new Tesla business.

You can’t get that $ back in fuel savings.

@paul It’s always so interesting from state to state. My EVs are less than half what my ICE cars are.

@snazzyq that is interesting. I’ll have to ask some people in other states.

I’m in Washington State where Teslas are as common as Camrys. You would think insurance would be lower here.

@paul @snazzyq Tesla has been trying to offer Tesla insurance in all 50 states, unfortunately they are working on “Elon time” and are still only up to eight (?) states. Once the competition appears, insurance prices will collapse.

@TedTodorov @snazzyq While I agree with this, at this time it would be in error to buy a Model 3 over a comparable other car factoring in its fuel cost savings as part of your decision. Considering that and their substandard service experience, I think I’ll keep driving ICE.

Other brands’ lack of a reliable charging network counts them out to me. Tesla (and soon Ford) totally win with Supercharger Stations.

Incidentally, Polestar 2 insurance is at a similar rate to BMW 3-series.
