Cities: “We are not Amsterdam! We can’t just change, push back car dominance and create liveable cities for people!"

Paris 🇫🇷: "Wait. Hold my wine 🍷🥖 !"

@dmoser I like how that guy trying to cross with his girl is so confused. Like… pay attention, dude.

Also… I dream for NYC to be like this. 😔

@dmoser You are so right! i was in Paris this spring and was deeply impressed how enjoyable the city had become for pedestrians!

@MonikaWolkers @dmoser
Capitalism: We need carbon!

Humanity: Nuh uh, we go biking.

@dmoser The only reason I haven’t cycled more in the cities that I’ve lived in is bc it was too dangerous with no good bike only routes.
@dmoser perfect example why a city full of bikes doesn't mean "more livable for pedestrians"

@dr_rugby @dmoser Paris is much better for pedestrians now than before these changes began. It's noticeably quieter, cleaner, walking there is really much more enjoyable than 10 or 15 years ago.

The changes are very, very fast and everybody still needs to get used to the new situation on the streets, but what you see in the video is way better compared to the past version of Paris, where most of the people now on bikes would be either in cars or on motorcycles. Much, worse for the pedestrians

@kytkosaurus @dmoser I have not been to Paris recently, but I believe it's true. However, an a*hole will remain an a*hole, no matter how many wheels he is commanding... Also, pedestrians are usually the weakest participants on the street and it doesn't matter if they are ignored by cars or bikes.
Anyways, yes, I prefer bikes to cars a hundred times, but 2 wheels doesn't automatically make people better persons.

@dr_rugby @dmoser

Why should it. It's just a really great transport machine, not an angel making machine. But even a real idiot on a bike brings several orders of magnitude lower risk to the people around them than the same idiot in a car. Plus behaving like an idiot on a bike brings much more immediate danger of harm to them personally, which also helps...

@dmoser
Yes, we must transition to a carbon-free system of living.

@dmoser this makes me so upset. Living in Washington DC for 10 years, it always screamed be be a less car-reliant city, but very little movement went in that direction.

Love seeing what Paris is doing!

@joshfinnie DC is very slowly getting there. One of the better cities in the US!
@dmoser the end goal is laudable, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Good planning and investment is a must
@dmoser Looks awesome but either those pedestrians are idiots or they need to figure that out, whole thing made me nervous to watch because of that.
@dmoser Don't be wrong, it's the only street like that in the whole city, It's not an example of Paris but an exception.
