Straight in this morning with a pot of green tea and Mr Moody-Pants.
I have to confess, nowadays I think of Coltrane, perhaps unfairly, as a younger person's saxophonist. The fervent anguished seeker. He belongs on the shelf with Hesse's Siddhartha, Kerouac's On the Road or The Dharma Bums, and Salinger's Catcher in the Rye.
The older I get, the more I lean toward the composers: Wayne Shorter, Ornette Coleman, et al.
Elvin Jones, as ever, is a monster on this album.

When Coltrane was a member of the Miles Davis quintet, Davis confronted him about the duration of his solos "I don't know what it is," Coltrane said. "It seems like when I get going, I just don't know how to stop."
Davis said, "Why don't you try taking the fucking horn out of your mouth?"

@Richard_Littler Desmond's dreamy work still captivates me like no other reed player. Coltrane's inventiveness and furious style are a brilliant but difficult ride for me.

@Richard_Littler @marick My initial response was, “Hey, I didn’t get into Coltrane until I was 40!”

But now i realize that I was indeed a younger person then.
