This sucks so much. ChatGPT took their jobs. Now they walk dogs and fix air conditioners. echnology used to automate dirty and repetitive jobs. Now, artificial intelligence chatbots are coming after high-paid ones. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/06/02/ai-taking-jobs/
ChatGPT took their jobs. Now they walk dogs and fix air conditioners.

Meet the people who have already lost their jobs to AI.

The Washington Post
The "Statement on AI Risk" by Sam Altman and wealthy individuals fails to address the potential impact of AI on job security. Rather, it focuses on concerns regarding war and human extinction. Despite my attempts to raise awareness about the issue, I have received negative feedback. It's important to consider how the everyday struggles of families may affect their ability to purchase products and services such as phones, streaming, gaming, and others when AI takes away their white-collar jobs.
Maybe there will be war because there are no jobs while rich folks are getting rich. I hope I remain wrong.
@nixCraft I don't think that the rich will inherit the earth. The more AI is accessible, the more competition to use AI will drive businesses to expand their products and hire more people to stay relevant. There was a similar overblown fear of firing secretaries because email was readily available, but secretaries became more valuable since they could do more. Workers also will become more valuable and jobs will shift from being repetitive and mundane to being more mentally demanding.
@walid @nixCraft demand is not endless. There won't enough businesses to hire all those people replaced by AI.
@djvdq @nixCraft In the past, automation was supposed to make all workers obsolete but workers became more useful since they were doing less of the time-wasting parts and instead smarts became more important. Then a hiring explosion followed because the new bar became what companies can do with more workers, not less. The reality is that product materials and labor costs are the limiting factor in how much employment happens because it's about affording production.
@walid @nixCraft
With automation, people were in fact losing jobs, and yes, new one were created.
HOWEVER.
First was agriculture. When it was automated, people lost jobs there and went to industry.
Second was industry. With increased automation there, people moved to services.
Now, 65% of world GDP is made through services.
And we are starting to automate services now. There can't be just more jobs in services, because AI will be able to do them. Where will all those people work to get money?
