Diego in his blanket after waking up from a sleep. This is an old photo of him from 2017, but I’m posting it today because he’s at the vet’s office after getting an x-ray.

He hasn’t been himself for some time and let out loud yelps from time to time but he was diagnosed with Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) by the vet this afternoon.

It’s the very early stages of the disease and with lots of care we can treat him. No jumping off sofas, beds, or chairs. No walks even. We have to wrap him in cotton wool for the next six weeks.

He’ll get better and soon running around after his toys and going for walks around the park again.

Thanks for all your good wishes. Diego was very excited to get home from the vet and is in good form but we're not letting him climb the stairs, I carry him half way around his walk and he's on medicine for the next eleven days. I'm pretty good at squirting a syringe into his mouth!

How do you know if your dog or cat is in pain? They're very good at hiding it.

Diego is doing much better now but he's not allowed up or down the stairs and when he gets tired on a walk I'll carry him home. He's very good taking his medicine and barely complains, and if course he loves the treat of a dog biscuit after!

Lovely to see his tail wag a lot more now. He must have been in pain for quite some time. 🙁

@donncha Gwen is on so many meds for arfritis. She's a trooper. Regular hydrotherapy helps her to stay mobile. Exercise in water is like zero G. Easy on the joints, allows good extension without damage or pain.
@mjgraves Oh, Gwen is lucky to have you! Diego hates the water, but I'm sure he'd benefit from a swim if there was such facilities here.
@donncha The facility she goes to is owned by a couple from Scotland, who still have their original facility in Aberdeen.

@donncha What a little sweetheart he is! Look at his little face!

Wishing Diego a swift and easy recovery.

@donncha he looks a pure dote
@donncha
Diego, wishing you the best and hoping you can find relief.
