For a long time, I had grown despondent of the web ever escaping the trap of the corporate network effect. Mastodon feels like a way out; I'm glad to be here

So, #introduction. I'm Paul Voosen, the earth and planetary science reporter at Science magazine. I cover #climate, #NASA, #geoscience, Mars rocks, foram tales, gyres, ridges, slabs, clouds. And mostly, I'm here to listen in. So I'm going to try and convince as many geoscientists to join us here as possible.

@voooos I see this is from Nov. but welcome! :)

Do you think you could get @newsfromscience posting here on Mastodon? Maybe they could make an account on journa.host?

I do see there is https://sciencemastodon.com/@sciencemagazine but they have never posted.

@ChrisWalter You know I pushed for them to create that account, but I have only limited sway to get them to use it, esp given our small social media staff. (I'd obviously love to see that, of course.) I'll ask them to evaluate it again at some point.
@voooos Thanks. Probably, the easiest thing will be when/if their social media manager program supports Mastodon since then they can add it to the list of places they automatically post to. I think that is the way the communications team on the telescope I work on does it.
