For my latest Iconfactory wallpaper, @gedeonm suggested I try something based on NASA's Project Mercury. But I couldn't figure out what sort of approach to take until I came across a photo of the 1962 postal stamp commemorating John Glenn's successful orbit in a Mercury capsule. The stamp's color and style provided just the right inspiration for me. #DigitalArt #nasa #space #wallpaper
I was surprised to find out that the 1962 stamp was the first ever to be released on the same day as the event that it commemorated. It was designed in secret, kept in sealed boxes, and released only after NASA had recovered Glenn and declared the mission a success. https://postalmuseum.si.edu/exhibition/one-giant-leap-for-mankind-preparing-for-manned-spaceflight/project-mercury-1958-1963
