Hackers is a good follow up. Less grandiose plot but just as outrageous characters played by future famous actors.

For years I thought it was Perfect Timing not Perfect Tommy.
It didn't really need a sequel but I was disappointed it never came out. Mostly because I wanted to find out what was up with that watermelon?

I'm gonna watch it again without having to stay time synced so I can look closer at all those incredible sets and props, it seemed like every shot had a dozen pieces of evidence of the design team having a lot of fun. I had no idea this was such a classic, but immediately get why lol
