A lot of this hybrid lately! I've enjoyed Mary Robinette Kowal's #TheSpareMan, CL Polk's #EvenThoughIKnewTheEnd, Mur Lafferty's #StationEternity. I hear the new novella by Arkady Martine, #RoseHouse also fits this subgenre.
