matchboxes in the soil for tourniquet weddings – Richard J Tilley

#WritersCoffeeClub What's a writing skill you wish you were better at?

Basic narrative structure: getting all the scenes in an order that makes sense but also ~flows~.

I really should just read a book on it. "My gut" isn't cutting it at novel length.

#PennedPossibilities 993 Reflect on... what we’ve learned...

Tools, not rules.

Anything can happen on a blank page.

You can't edit a blank page.

"Every first draft is perfect bc every first draft is *finished*." - Marc Bernardin

Grammar is less important than communication.

Stories happen in readers' heads.

Write what you can see/hear clearly, so write out of order.

Write for yourself (unless it's for a pay cheque).

#WordWeavers What would your antagonist be willing to die for?

She would rather die than give up her own status, her power over other people. To have to treat people like equals is hideous to her.

#WritersCoffeeClub Apr 22: What's a writing skill you wish you were better at?

All of it? No? Hmm... self-editing. My brain autocorrects a lot of what I write, even if I go back over it after walking away for a period. I know what I meant, so my brain just glosses over mistakes.

#WordWeavers Apr 22: What would your antagonist be willing to die for?

The antagonist of #FirstFire is literally a goddess, so she's not really able to die in any meaningful fashion the protagonist could affect.

Wouldn’t you know it, I posted earlier about wishing my typing was better could so I could avoid typos. Just finished reformatting the second edition of How to Succeed as a Supervillain by Following the Evil Overlord List ready for the new Amazon eBook version and guess what, I’ve found around a dozen more of those pesky typos…

Now I’ve gotta revisit the other 3 versions of the book to correct them, too.

What's a writing skill you wish you were better at?

Managing to hit the correct key as I type. It’d save me a heck of a lot of time if I wasn’t continually having to pause to fix those pesky typos!

#WritersCoffeeClub 22. What's a writing skill you wish you were better at?
Somehow I’ve done over 70 books (including trad, self-, and a couple of e-book only) without ever learning to touch-type. I kind of wish I had but there’s always something more appealing to do than the initial training.
