Neighborhood meeting happened. During load shedding, nogal! So we sat in the dark with our lamps and phones for light.

Went well, considering. Looks like we've figured out how to save the jobs of two security guards.

But I'm left absolutely exhausted.

Some people had a lot of anger, often perfectly valid, but they don't seem to know how to express it other than being bullies.

On the other hand, many articulate, kind, and effective people as well.
Able to express their dissatisfaction without it becoming a personal attack.

Was deeply weird. Whoever arranged the chairs set them up in tight parallel rows, so we were all squashed together not able to see one another, and most of the room in front of us empty as if there was going to be dancing!

@Zumbador
I wonder if the chairs had been in a circle or rows facing each other if people might have behaved differently. Hard thing to suggest in the moment, though. And of course it was dark, which wouldn't have helped. Anyway, glad it turned out reasonably well.

@edhaswell
I did nearly suggest that we should move the chairs in a circle. But I'd already expended a good deal of my social capital by interrupting the beginning of a bunfight and going 'OK, Godfrey, you're the chairperson, right, everybody takes turns talking to Godfrey and nobody gets to interrupt".

Which everyone agreed to, to my surprise!

@Zumbador Lol. I like it here on Mastodon. I've learned two great new (to me) words recently: yeet/yote and bunfight. Learned other cool things, too, but words stand out to me.
@edhaswell agreed!
Some words just stand out.
