#FunFactFriday: Renewables and clean energy finally on track to overtake fossil fuel investments, with Solar reaching over $1 billion every day! News Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/25/investment-in-fossil-fuels-set-to-exceed-1-trillion-in-2023-iea-says.html

@mattferrell We have an interesting development with regards to solar in southern Sweden. Thanks to the massive solar deployments in Germany the cost of our electricity now goes to zero during daytime.

This wasn't predicted in anyway, it just started showing in the charts as spring progressed.

(It does make for more complicated EV charging which up until now was done during nighttime for the next day's commute - but it's a nice problem to have)

@troed that’s fascinating! There’s so much to learn from the energy transition we’re going through. Thanks for sharing.

@mattferrell when I see stories like this I wonder how people handled the transition to the current thing...fossil fuels in this case

Were there economic, social, political struggles that had to be overcome? Was there a be tipping point where it's finally became the norm? Etc

However, I don't know what the dominant energy source was before oil. I am thinking it wasn't just one main source

What do you think?

@MarkKozel that’s a really good question. I haven’t looked into that too deeply, but it would be interesting to compare. Curious if anyone else has input on that?
