@feditips @homegrown you can also use services like yunohost.org which is open source, but needs a bit more technical kknowledge.

Yes, indeed! There are many options depending on how technical people want to be:

Non-techy -> Managed hosting

Semi-techy -> Yunohost, FreedomBox, LibreServer etc

Fully Techy -> Manual installation and maintenance

@homegrown @feditips def would put myself in the semi-techie category! i looked into installing mastodon, and hoped it was a simple process of just running a few commands or something, when I realized what was involved i was like, "no way can I do that too complicated!" so yunohost has enabled me to have my own fully operational server.
