@jackwellborn What's tab bar? 🤔

edit: okay found out the option. Never heard of that before.

@jackwellborn holy shit! you can swipe! I never knew that and thats how I have it set. #todayilearned
@jackwellborn I was a staunch opponent of the switch but the reachability of it all makes sense. I still dislike a few of the implementation details but bottom bar is great.
@jackwellborn WAIT WHAT YOU CAN SWIPE THAT
@njvack @jackwellborn even better, when you're on your last tab you just swipe it to the left and get a new tab. Smoooooth.
@Alexbrooks @jackwellborn I usually find that for whatever reason I'm on like tab 91 of 373 so I am never getting a new tab this way
@jackwellborn I have mine on the bottom since it’s much easier to reach the controls. Swiping between tabs is a nice bonus too but reachability is the main reason for me.
@jackwellborn I’ve found tab bar to be a much better experience. Took a short bit of time to get used to it down there.
@jackwellborn wait you can not swipe the tab bar when it's at the top?? 🙃
@jackwellborn Didn't know it swiped (thanks for that) also I had 80 tabs open, most of which were one-time sign-in pages. Those are now closed. (Thanks for that.)
@jackwellborn I didn’t like this at first, but the swiping is a killer feature so I got used to it 👏🏻
@jackwellborn @gruber Tab Bar. It took waaaay longer than I would have guessed to overcome the muscle memory despite the bottom being far easier to reach…
@jackwellborn @gruber Half of the people that use the tap bar haven't found the option to put the address bar at the top, where it belongs. 😆
@Crow74 @jackwellborn @gruber Half the people that moved it back to the top doesn’t know you can swipe on the address bar to switch tabs. 🙂

@jsveningsson @jackwellborn @gruber Well I sure didn’t know that! 😆

Seriously though: I couldn’t live with the address bar at the bottom. I tried, and failed.

@jackwellborn @gruber I answered the poll, but to give more context, I use the tab bar on iPhone, but on iPad and Mac I use the old way of a URL bar and tabs below.
@jackwellborn iPhone mini means you can reach the top still when holding in one hand.
@jackwellborn I had no idea you could swipe it!
@jackwellborn Bottom bar is the only way to live.
@jackwellborn I can swipe it? How did I not notice that?
@jackwellborn Not sure how, but just trying to bring up the poll in @ivory caused it to vote, and not for the “correct” answer for me. And no way to undo.
@jackwellborn I have the tab bar at the bottom. It was just like that that after one of the updates. I didn’t even know you could change it back
@jackwellborn needs a third option--
O What?
@jackwellborn You are assuming I use Safari. I don’t. At all. Ever.
@jackwellborn @gruber my 2¢ 1) if you can only see one tab at time, it's not a tab bar. 2) there's no reason to disable swiping with the URL in the top position. 3) the obsession to make everything reachable might be less desirable than keeping info hierarchy (title/url at the top mental model) no cats die if I have to reach tap the top of the screen. I do like the bottom search bar in Maps but in that case the search results are shown below the search bar (maintaining the info hierarchy)

@jackwellborn

Were you expecting something different?

In my mind, the poll is probably a loose extrapolation of the iOS public beta sample size, that made them confident this change was ok. That and the power of defaults defining predominant behavior.

@jackwellborn Your query is missing an option for "I don't even know what you're talking about!".
@jackwellborn I wonder how many people know they can swipe it?
@jackwellborn the iPhone still comes with Safari?
@jackwellborn i pressed the wrong one but my actual choice is winning by wide margin
@jackwellborn I resisted for probably a year, but once I committed to really trying it, I liked it, and haven’t felt the need to go back.
@jackwellborn The problem with the tab bar is it is too effective. I discovered there is a tab limit of 500 tabs. It’s madness.
@jackwellborn I usually adapt to Apple's changes because they usually turn out to be for the better indeed.. As is the case with the bottom tab + swipe..
