May Anti-Trans Legislative Risk Map

The map of anti-trans risk has polarized into two Americas - one where trans people have full legal protections, and one where they are persecuted by the state.

@danirabbit that is… disturbing to say the least…
@danirabbit I am glad that I live in one of the safest states.
@danirabbit big reason never to go to the USA. Not just this, but also more and more anti-female laws

@Tijgertje1987 @danirabbit

And the racism. I've had an indefinite moratorium on travel to the US since 2016. It's been seven years and I don't miss it.

@danirabbit JFC. I've got to start the process of getting out of Missouri.
@danirabbit I'm Canadian and cis, so I don't face the risks, but Florida has been "do not travel" for me since 2016. Florida keeps telling me I'm making the right decision. So happy none of my money has been going there.

@danirabbit

I just can't phantom how we seem to be regressing in this day and age...
So much hate in the world and for what?
Surely it can't be that hard to let people be who they want to be and mind your own business?

I just hope that things will take a drastic turn for the better soon as this really can't last this way.

@OutofPrintArchive @danirabbit

Conservatives are having a moment where they finally found the tiniest minority and one that makes ignorant people feel weird, and those conservatives are going to hate monger on that group over and over because it is the only thing they can finally feel a little unity on.

It is sad, really, but also dangerous.

I hope judges start ruling soon that there is no compelling state interest in supporting discrimination based on lies.

@danirabbit I'm in Oregon. If you're coming here and need info from here, I'll do my best.
@danirabbit A word of warning to those of you fleeing. See how many there are? They only need control of 37 to fuck up the constitution. I'm not saying stay, that would be an inhumane request.
@hellomiakoda we only make up like 1% of the population. We need cis allies to vote there on our behalf. Even if every trans person turned out, we wouldn’t have enough voting power to swing elections
@danirabbit what scares me is that she had Iowa as light blue just a few months ago, even though plenty of us here were sounding the alarm. What does that mean for the other light blue states? Is ANYwhere actually safe?
@danirabbit (maybe I'm misremembering and it was light orange ... but it sure as hell didn't take two years for it to turn a terrifying corner)
@danirabbit Sobering and downright frightening how quickly this happened. I'm reading Riki Wilchin's manuscript of her next book, about the attack on gender affirming care for youth -- and I don't yet understand how, a few years back, North Carolina passed a bathroom bill and got absolutely stomped for it, but now, we have all these bills passing with little public pushback. Did the pandemic change something? Some increase in just fuck it I got mine selfishness out there? A loss of empathy? Was it Trump? Permission to hate? Not sure....
@danirabbit I still believe the social key to fighting back is a publicity campaign giving examples of NB/trans folk in history, who have made acknowledged contributions to science, the arts, medicine, etc. This directly attacks the stereotype that we are The Other.

Thanks for sharing.
As a Geographer, i deal with maps on a daily bases, seeing this one made me sad.
