Men need protection from hazards. Women need protection from men.

@Miriamm The hard hat and steel toed boots are also useful for defence against people :p
@RavenLuni @Miriamm at this point hard hats need to get traded for ballistic helmets for both groups
@Miriamm You're right, but as much as men don't like to admit it, we need most if not all of the stuff in the bottom half too.

WHEN YOU GOOGLE MEN'S SAFETY ITEMS:
HARD HAT.
VISIBILITY GEAR.
STEEL TOE BOOTS
PROTECTIVE GLASSES.
WHEN YOU GOOGLE WOMEN'S SAFETY ITEMS:
PERSONAL ALARM.
PEPPER SPRAY.
STUN GUN.
DRINK PROTECTOR.
DOOR LOCK.
WINDOW BREAKER.
@Miriamm On a lark, I tried this..it's pretty accurate
@Miriamm A window breaker comes in handy if you're being kidnapped, but its general use for anyone is to be able to escape if your car is being flooded or is on fire.
@SharonGibson3 @Miriamm
Car manufacturers that make the door locks to hide inside the door when closed should be sued to hell and back.

@Miriamm condom wasn't in there?

@Miriamm

The items in the upper half of the picture are workplace protective equipment. They are used by people who work.

@Miriamm but how much of that is down to decisions made by marketers rather than from purchasing decisions from customers? Sexism either way, but not telling quite the same story.

@Miriamm I'm 99% sure this is a Lainey Molnar comic... yep!

If you got it from somewhere that removed her byline, you might want to tell them, but in the meantime it's worth linking to her original: https://www.instagram.com/p/CsHFC97tue-/

@offby1 Thank you, i'll add the link
@Miriamm men need protection from themselves and other men being stupid and doing stupid things.

@Miriamm I have everything on both lists. Not sure what to make of that.

I'm going with "complete"

@Miriamm “Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them.”

― Margaret Atwood

@Miriamm

This is tragic. Speaking as a white male, I'm ashamed.

@Miriamm
To some - some - extent I think this speaks to attitudes in society and fears, regarding who is at risk from what, and how we can be sold things based on that. Not that the underlying point is wrong - I'm afraid it's very true - but what comes up on Google isn't a great objective assessment of what the actual risks are, it's what the algorithm deems most relevant, and no-one gets to know how the algorithm works.
@Miriamm ironically you just made a list of things men don't need but I see what the point is
@Miriamm omfg this 🥲 When I tell male infosec ppl what I teach women and marginalized folks in my security workshops they’re like “that’s not cybersecurity” cause their threat models don’t include creeps, harassers, stalkers and rapists…
@Miriamm alt text: cartoon drawings of the product results from searching for "men's safety items" at top (yellow reflective vest, steel toe boots, protective glasses, bike helmet) and "women's safety items" at bottom (personal alarm, pepper spray, door lock, window breaker, drink protector).
@Miriamm it's to keep the ones with fragile masculinity from shattering under the slightest pressure
@Miriamm the urge to actually google this is real
