Random reminder: You don't grow the economy through trickle down economics. You grow the economy by investing in workers: their education, health care, child care, transportation, and job training.

@rbreich

I knew Trumpo was full of BS hot air with his making America great again. Apart from being 1930s KKK slogan, even if his intentions were honest and straight as dye, he could not overturn in 4 years the mess that has been made since Jimmy Carter even if toiled 24/7 during his entire pres. term.

P.S.
Joe Biden is far cry from FDR. Don't have high hopes for him or with him.

@rbreich You don’t save the planet by growing the economy. #degrowth
@PedestrianError @rbreich well maybe you can. Pay people to be nature rangers instead of farmers, ranchers, etc....

@darwinwoodka @PedestrianError @rbreich

There's a lot of potential job growth in building #RenewableEnergy infrastructure, isn't there?

But the only thing that grows from "trickle down" economics is #inequality .

@rbreich Infinite growth is the philosophy of a cancer.

We live on a finite planet. Infinite growth means its death through exponentially growing consumption and exponentially growing waste.

@rbreich
now tell that to your governors and president, and all that deep state which only seek for their interest.....

@rbreich

The purpose of the government should be meeting the needs of the people.

Otherwise it is just a scheme, for stealing value from average citizens.

@rbreich the rich and corporate overlords along with politicians - mostly Republicans - have long run a campaign to convince American people what would help them most is evil socialism and for the past 4 or 5 decades they’ve realized the fruits of their labor.
@rbreich Which is why I wish Dems would start making the point that the health, education, and welfare of U.S. citizens is a national security matter. They could claim being the party of national security.
@rbreich Trickle down works perfectly as designed. 40+ years of windfall for the deserving. A nice, reaffirming result. You want to take that away? Good luck!
@rbreich I usually ignore you as you are a tool, but this time… Economic growth is what is killing this planet. How about you find another job not being a corporate shill?
@rbreich
You could call it trickle-up economics. Put the money in at the bottom, and it will do good all the way up, pretty well, Until it gets into hoarding hands again perhaps.
@rbreich And if you pay a decent wage, they'll have more money to buy products.
@rbreich
I'd STILL vote for you for POTUS, but you need to read a few Isaac Asimov essays on exponential growth of the population and economies. You are basically propounding unlimited growth when we should be shrinking the economy. Economics degrees seem particularly weak in the #limitstogrowth department. We should be cutting waste and shrinking the economy, not growing it.
The Billionaires Who Are Threatening Democracy

In his new book, the historian Quinn Slobodian writes about the ideologues who believe that society should prioritize capital, not people.

The Atlantic

@rbreich All the wealth trickles up eventually anyway. I don't see why the oligarchs can't be a little patient and just let us have the money for a bit to pay our medical bills and housing and repair costs and stuff before they end up with the money regardless.

Also, America and its industry and military are fading because we're not investing in workers and regular people. At this rate, China really will beat us.

@rbreich
What kind of nonsense is that?
Trickle down economics works, because if you give money to rich people, they will spend it on things they don't need.
If you give money to poor people they surely will not spend it on things they do need, like food and proper clothing, medical assistance and education. 🙄
@rbreich It's been shown for awhile that "trickle down economics" has failed for awhile now. https://www.businessinsider.com/how-bad-is-inequality-trickle-down-economics-thomas-piketty-economists-2021-12
Huge 20-year study shows trickle-down is a myth, inequality rampant

The bottom 50% of the world holds 2% of wealth, while the top 10% holds 76%, according to a huge data set that leading economists compiled for years.

@rbreich

Until we can rid ourselves of this monstrous idea we call "the economy" we are utterly fucked.

#capitalism #economy #religion

@rbreich
I don't disagree, but we need to at least stop the trickle up too. No more free private airports, no more subsidies for Big Oil, no more tax free real estate for religious businesses, no more tax deductions on a second home.
@rbreich Thomas Piketty tore apart the flawed and fraudulent thinking of trickle down (eg the Kuznett Curve), which mistook post war demographic and political effects on social mobility as "proof" of permanent trickling down of wealth, when in fact it was evidence of the reverse.
@rbreich stop calling it trickle down and start calling it what it really is, “RAINING UP”!
@rbreich there is never any “trickle”, it just keeps raining up!
