I notice that You on purpose ignored the main point. You have to be very careful when you try to apply the legal/moral concepts from today to a society 2 centuries ago.
@MaryPot @peachfront @QasimRashid Please note if I wanted to navel gaze, I've been lucky enough to be from a place that allows me to look down on most of the USA, I don't need to compare today with 2 centuries ago.
Corporal punishment (for kids) was abolished here 4 decades ago. As was the patriarchal family model, BTW, now that you mention it. Human rights were added as part of our constitution decades before I was born.
More fair comparison, same time period. Still not without problems.
