@golgaloth I'm not in the medical field, I'm in/was until recently in the tech sector. I was massively inspired by star trek, especially TOS: I wanted to be a female Spock.
What hooked this 11 year old girl was there was no (apparent to me) racism which had such an effect on me that I started to question my parents who just accepted the status quo as if racism could never be changed. Likewise when I learned about and shared my knowledge of the patriarchy.
@golgaloth I realised that the skilled people on the. bridge were at the top of their game. There was no better communicator than Uhura, and the absense of money meant that they were all nominally equal but skill and experience in that field set the captain of the Enterprise above them.
@golgaloth I have worked in the NHS from then, the hospital was the nearest I could get to the Enterprise. HTH.
