Escarpment@LadyDragonfly I sometimes think about it like: the work of politics and government should be to reduce harm to citizens. A threat to that work is *perceived* harm.

Most GOP voters don't actually have "standing" in the metaphorical sense that the issues that cause so much ire actually harm them in any demonstrable way.
