You will not remember why you worked late.

But your kids will remember how they felt.

I certainly remember that my dad was rarely home before 20:00 when I was a kid.

@dcrooks @kaasbaas and if your employer is some big company or an arsehole, they won't appreciate you working late anyway.
@kaasbaas being a military kid, this hits a little different. My dad was gone for my Birthday almost every year for a good chunk of my childhood. I donโ€™t blame him for it, I know he had almost no control over it. He would call and I could hear the disappointment in his voice.
BUT, retail workers have this expectation of hustle placed upon them by their bosses. Every boss Iโ€™ve ever had expected 200% effort. Overtime is expected & required bu some. Its all fucked up.

@kaasbaas
My dad was nearly always home from 1 or 2 pm, had his office in the house.

He was still at his desk until 5 or 6, but he was there and available for urgent things.

The jobs I've had so far never started before 9 and I was nearly always home before 6 pm. Wouldn't want to miss mornings and evenings with my daughter.

And now that I am self employed with my office at home it is almost perfect.
