This is so cool!

A modern sailboat loses its rudder at sea. They send out a distress call and...

"They did not expect an 18th century merchant ship to come to their rescue. Or in their own words: 'This moment was very strange, and we wondered if we were dreaming. Where were we? What time period was it?'" 😳

Sailing boat rescued by the Götheborg | Götheborg of Sweden

Imagine losing your rudder out at sea and sending out a distress call. And then the largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship in the world comes to your rescue. Or in the words of the sailors on the sailing boat: "This moment was very strange, and we wondered if we were dreaming. Where were we? What time period was it?"

@elaterite was it not for the safe and successful operation, this would be something for @DreadShips.
Wonderful story!
@elaterite Paging @ccohanlon...imagine, like a ghost ship...
@elaterite Good find! Now there's a story idea. The Flying Dutchman, except helping people out and then vanishing. Good find!
@elaterite this is very cool. 😎❤️
@elaterite
“Hi! Thanks for rescuing us!

WHAT YEAR IS IT?!
Is this the Bermuda triangle?”
@elaterite It's like the book The Kingdoms!

@elaterite I had that same feeling when camping on Kangaroo Island, off the coast of South Australia. Crawled out of the tent early one morning, walked to the top of a sandhill to look at the sea, and only 100 yards off shore was a 19th century sailing ship at anchor, absolutely motionless on the still water, in a haze of mist.

You just don't know whether to believe your eyes!

@elaterite Jack Sparrow to the rescue 🤣

@elaterite Wow! Sailboat in trouble meets Jack Sparrows' bark!

Lucky one!

@elaterite
I would loved to get rescued by a tall ship!

@elaterite That is cool! Thanks for that article.

Have a good weekend,

Dave
