I understand what @matt is saying here but I would not trust Apple to handle the data store/sync for my production files in any capacity. It isn’t just sync, it’s making sure that the storage would be adequately managed too. Never. Absolutely never. I trust Adobe to do this (and they bought Frame.io), not Apple. https://isfeeling.social/@matt/110339307669743329

@[email protected] I was really hoping this would involve some sort of cloud storage for projects so you could more easily work on a Mac, switch to the iPad, and then back to the Mac with all your changes synced across both versions. Maybe down the road.

@film_girl @matt We have to use Adobe Creative Cloud Sync in my office because Adobe is hostile to all other cloud storage solutions. The find Creative Cloud Sync inadequate in a few ways and we’ve had files mysteriously disappear. CC Files is supposedly better but only supports 3 types of files.
@film_girl @matt This is not intended as a defence of iCloud storage, I had a syncing problem the other week, but I’m just p***ed about Adobe’s cloud storage and lack of support for other solutions.
@paulc @matt yeah, I’m specifically talking about frame.io here.
@film_girl @matt Very good point. And when I’m working on large 1-2 TB projects, I don’t really trust Adobe. I end up using SSDs to transport projects.
@itswilltime @matt oh, same. We have a huge plan with Frame.io but even then, for our workflow at Microsoft (who still does video production work for me), we’ve got a massive custom SAN for storing files and edits. And I have 10gE on my iMac specifically for that, along with my poor man’s SAN that I built from a Synology.
@film_girl @matt You probably shouldn’t trust my aging memory, but wasn’t it Adobe that lost their customers online photos sometime back?
@MattO @matt no idea. But I’m talking about their professional customers so it’s a little bit different scenario. Frame.io, which they acquired, is a wonderful product
@film_girl @MattO Frame.io is amazing from what I hear. I know you can use that with Final Cut as well, although how much do you want to bet the iPad version of FCP won’t? 🙃
@matt @film_girl @MattO our whole internal and client feedback system is built around frame.io it’s an amazing peace of software. I can only recommend it
@film_girl @matt I’ve never had issues with iCloud and have found all backups and restores of my devices to be rock solid. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@ngorby @matt for me it is not at all reliable for fast enough for things like video edits. I do agree it would be nice if project metadata could transfer over but I wouldn’t trust it to just work, sadly.
@film_girl I totally get that. I’ve never used it to transfer or rely on backing up large docs. Just text based docs and photos. To be fair, I am not pushing it to its absolute limit.
@film_girl @ngorby @matt iCloud Drive has worked well for me since a couple years into its inception, but apps that rely on CloudKit tend to be hit-or-miss (including Apple's own apps). The inconsistency is still scary enough that I agree with Christina here; even though I use iCloud as much as possible myself, your professional work is a whole other ball game.
@film_girl @matt ha! Adobe😆 They lost us a whole week of work using their team projects. Frame.io might be able to restore my faith in them
@iestynx @matt to be clear, Frame was who I was referring to specifically.
