Apparently, there are people who are happy that they won’t be able to install optional third party stores on iOS because they don’t live in the EU.

Like, why?! “Oh I’m sure glad this option to get more apps that Apple might have not allowed doesn’t come to MY phone!”

@thelinuxEXP because they believe in the myth that Apples approval process is an essential security measure.
@jrt But even if you believe that, the third party stores are optional?!
@thelinuxEXP yes. I didn't say that it makes sense. Most people I've heard that say are either not tech savy users or just believe what apple tells them. And Apple benefits if everyone goes through their payment processor only.
@jrt @thelinuxEXP
Plus, have you seen some Android phones especially those owned by older people? They wouldn't know what is scam, spam or otherwise and just accept any Trojan as long as it comes as an easy-to-install gadget 😬 I am in no way defending Apple here btw, I am just trying to deliver the argument I heard most about this 🙂

@don_fruendo @jrt

Unfortunately that's true. Does that crappy apps aren't able to bypass apple verification? Coz on android they are installed from paly store mostly.

But sideload opens more options to SCAMers, yes.

@don_fruendo @jrt I mean, most Android phones don’t have the option to install from outside of the Play store enabled. Like 99% of them, so it’s definitely a user conscious decision to bypass that. It will definitely be the same (or harder) on iOS, plus they said they’ll allow third party stores, not complete sideloading :)
@thelinuxEXP @jrt Your mistake was expecting people to have a coherent train of thought.
@thelinuxEXP @jrt You could probably argue that as long as third party app stores still remain unavailable in one major region, users who do not want to use third party app stores can be sure that all major apps will still be published to the App Store. Otherwise companies like Epic could force users to use their own store/distribution method for their products
