I had not been aware of this tragedy, #NoMoreStolenSisters.

This seems to be a commonality with one of the largest minority, #blacks:

"Despite representing 12.85% of the population, black Americans accounted for nearly 226,000 β€” or 34% β€” of all missing persons reported in 2012."

Idk the pecentage of #NativeAmericans in the #US and #Canada, but for the #US it is 1.1% in comparison, 3.684.982 people...

The #CIA's estimate for the #US population in 2022 is 337341954, 1.1% of which would be 3.7m people.

@msquebanh
FYI: US: #NativeAmericans (very difficult to get the terminology right writing for a global audience).

@anna_lillith

@HistoPol @anna_lillith #TurtleIsland is widely recognized in #BIPOC activist communities if that helps ✌

@msquebanh

Honestly, I have a hard time thinking of the huge country of #Canada as an Island. πŸ˜‰ Thanks for the information.

BTW, I seem to remember the story of creation from a #NativeAmerican tribe (#US).
Does this possible have something to do with #FirstNations calling it #TurtleIsland?

@anna_lillith

#turtleisland #bipoc

@HistoPol @anna_lillith Look at it all on a map. It sure looks like a huge island to me ✌
Turtle Island

For some Indigenous peoples, Turtle Island refers to the continent of North America. The name comes from various Indigenous oral histories that tell stories of ...

@HistoPol @anna_lillith pretty damn cool!

@msquebanh @anna_lillith

Think so, too.
Might have found the origin of the -TurtleIsland myth. So natural. πŸ˜€
