We are way past debating hypotheticals, or whether or not they would *really* go “that far.” Better take them seriously: Wherever Republicans are in charge, they are embracing an authoritarian vision of society and are fully committed to imposing that vision on all of society.

Worthwhile to point out that Winston Smith remembers what it was like before Big Brother. He lived through the change. Less than one lifetime was all it took.
