16 years passed between GTA1 and GTA5 release date. And since GTA5 released 10 years have now passed. Games are more complicated than ever to make, added resolution to assets, realism mechanics, online etc add a real time cost to all.

@djlink Honestly I wished AAA industry would get cues from some part of the indie scene and realize that not everything need to be an arms race to the biggest, largest, more complicated game ever. Going small, simple and tight sometimes is just the best thing you can do!

Just look at Vampires Survivors.... bet that one is going to get twisted to the end by someone in the AAA industry that wants to get in on it, but "bigger and better!"... 😑

@elFlashor @djlink That’s not the only reason i think. GTA V still sells and get some new content.

If you compare GTA V when it launched and now you would see a lot of big changes. A lot of work is now done after the initial release (game as a service).

@lord @djlink That is true, it is also a factor.

But there's something about current games (and entertainment in general) companies wanting to keep players/users forever engaged to their product, which in itself is another debate-sparking topic 😁

@djlink also creating new and different things is getting harder. So many plots have been explored
@clisboa that’s true, but also every once in a while a brand new idea comes along and it’s so simple that gives me hope there are tons of unexplored things
@djlink to be honest I'm really looking forward for someone who will successfully make a game with gta/gta2 top view with modern mechanics to it 🧐
@djlink Doesn't really make sense to only look at one series from a game company, that also develops other games, in isolation. RDR2 came 5 years after GTA V.
Also, GTA V Online has been massively profitable, with loads of content being released regularly, so it wouldn't make sense to focus on a successor too soon, so RDR 2 was definitely the most sensible option for them.
III, VC and SA are basically the same games, the others are massive upgrades technologically, so obviously a bigger gap.
