For years Davenport, Iowa has refused to build a flood wall, saying it would ruin the view of the Mississippi river. The river is quite visible today 😂
@eric I lived in the Quad City from 76 to 89 and saw a lot of flooding. If you want the view of the river, you're going to have to take the good with the bad.

@eric I must say, that's genious!

Bringing the river to the masses! :3

@eric conveniently places right across town, this is livin!
@eric This is when you have some enterprising young person start up a "rafting tour" company that's open when the river spills over. Special tours w/ a raft and a punting pole while an iPod plays some twangy 1800s string band music as you go down and check out the sites

@eric In true rightwing fashion, the rural-ish town that rails against big govt will once again ask for a handout from big govt and then claim it's never received any help from the fed govt.

I'm so tired of #RepublicanHypocrisy.
I'm so tired of #ruralhypocrisy.

@eric Where are the arks to get around in?
@Aviva_Gary @eric In Kentucky, but it looks like weathering is taking it's toll... and the thing can't float anyway.
@eric I see their point. Beautiful.
@eric
Now they're going to run to the Federal Government for money. Chuck Grassley the traitor can shove it up his ass
@eric oh my. My aunt lived there until her boyfriend murdered her in the 1980’s.
@eric
And now they will want the State and Federal Government to pay for all the damage caused by the flooding and pay for the flood wall. Sound familiary?
@eric Where we're going we don't need roads.
@eric @gemelliz Look at all that waterfront property...
@eric @jentrification as opposed to the wall of plastic cubes and sheeting, backed up with giant portable pumps the last time I stoppped there 8-10 years ago? Presumably that wall was breached today?
@eric it being a beautiful day is natural dark humor
@eric is it on the far side of that lake?
@eric I was born and lived in Rock Island for many years - well before their flood wall. I spend many nights sandbagging! Can't fathom why Davenport doesn't build at least a small wall - back from the river banks - that would allow easy access to the park and at the same time provide protection from the majority of flooding events.
