B/c it was not enough to silence her voice on the House floor, #Montana Republicans have banished Rep. #ZooeyZephyr from the state legislature for the rest of the session. She will not be permitted to represent her 11,000 constituents who elected her to speak for them. GOP lawmakers misgendered Zephyr & accused her of violating decorum by opposing their anti-trans bills & saying they would have “blood on their hands”. Protesters who supported her were arrested. This is what #fascism looks like.

@dianarajchel @GJGreenlea the Montana bill that seeks to change the definition of sex across the entire state, I’ve heard if they actually pass that they might lose their federal aid. One can only hope that cooler heads will prevail. But knowing the Republicans lately I have a bad feeling they’re just going to run right into that brick wall.

@MexicanYenta I hope they’ve unwittingly made another star, like the Tennessee Three. These ousted lawmakers have all gained platforms far beyond the reach of the Tennessee and Montana legislatures. Their messages will ring from coast to coast and around the world. Democracy will win in the end. To borrow a phrase from Fernando Sabino, “It will all be okay in the end. If it’s not, it’s not the end. “

One quick correction - she WILL be allowed to vote, so she can still represent her constituents... but only in a limited fashion as she will only be allowed to vote remotely. Otherwise I agree with you, this whole situation is *disgusting* and scary.

Oh, bless your heart. We've never been a true democracy, nor a true representative democracy. Ref the Electoral College: A republican hasn't won the popular vote for the presidency since Reagan in 1984. Gerrymandering has been a thing since 1789. The majority of oligarchy made their money in The Opium Wars, where the Americans trafficked opium from the middle east via clipper ships for distribution in China. Hypocritical capitalists.

@GJGreenlea @hack13 The county I grew up in continues to show its true colors and they aren’t red white and blue. This is why I have no pride in being American and haven’t for a very long time. A country that has to boast that “It’s the best country in the world” and continues to be more and more fanciest is a country I’m ashamed to live in. The white old men running this fucking country, a country founded on freedoms and choice, can’t staaaaaand to see people different than them fight for their very rights if@not even just exist and be viewed as equals. Was there EVER a separation of church and state in the USA? I don’t think so.

I don’t talk about politics much but as a proud member of the LGBTQA+ community, I’m literally watching our rights eroding away. Democracy is dying. This is not about politics, it’s about human rights. So fucking frustrating. Anyway, thanks for reading my rant.

How is it that we are at a place where one party is so bold that they would silence a speaker from a rival party in such a blatant and obvious way? I just can’t believe that they are this flagrant in not only their disrespect towards another duly elected official, but in their distain for an entire subset of their own constituents. Missoula isn’t the only population of Trans People in Montana.
