This is extraordinary.

The Montana House has banned Rep. Zooey Zephyr from the House for the rest of the session.

I wonder how her constituents feel about losing their full representation and their voice.

And so the attack on democracy continues.
In plain sight.

@jbf1755 so does the attack on sexuality, gender, LGBTQ and women and girls.Boy, those GOP must live in so much fear it’s turning entire legislatures into a barrel of bullies.
@artesianspring @jbf1755 It is a direct demonstration of what republicans will do given the complete control and power. They will simply exercise them in totalitarianism.
@locksmithprime @jbf1755 yes, they will and that’s exactly why our actions have to speak Louder than Words.

@locksmithprime @artesianspring @jbf1755

Will do?

They are doing it. In Florida, Wisconsin, Texas, Tennessee, Utah...so what is this "will do when they're in power"?

@staidwinnow @artesianspring @jbf1755 I have the impression that pre-TFG, many republicans either believed or pretended that they owed some sort of explanation to the people, and had to do something for the people. Post-TFG demonstrated that they can just about do anything without consequences, since Democrats will limit themselves to talking. If much, republicans will just make up some bs and their supporters will go with it.
@locksmithprime @artesianspring @jbf1755 we are watching it play out before our very eyes. The debt ceiling will not be raised. They need a major economic crisis to make people afraid and willing to accept strong man leadership and methods.
@Breathe @artesianspring @jbf1755 Or simply push that as a fake reality, and their voters will promptly believe.
@artesianspring @jbf1755 turning legislatures into bullies and totalitarian authority is their goal

@jbf1755 I read that "expulsion was also on the table."

It occurs to me that they deliberately *avoided* that option because they figured it would be Justin Jones all over again, with her being immediately reappointed.

@ssfckdt @jbf1755 Clearly. They figured this was Fascism Lite and they could probably get away with it.
@jbf1755 the attack on what americans call democracy was never really hidden, at home or abroad. democracy isn't profitable.
@jbf1755 Weaponized decorum.
"You can't say that what I am doing is bad, because that would be rude, and nobody is allowed to be rude in this forum. And of course, I get to decide what is rude and what is not".

@jbf1755 Heinous stuff, of course.

I find this stuff so painful from a personal policy perspective. I think straight-ticket voting is harmful and/or stupid - but I don’t really see any choice any more. I can’t possibly vote for anyone that identifies as Republican.

@jbf1755 Civil Rights Act supposedly covers ANY racism. DOJ doing nothing. And people loving this cardboard administration! Trumps dog shit. Bidens dog shit! We the people are screwed!
@jbf1755 I hope they step up and complain.
@jbf1755 I mean… what’s the saying… No taxation without representation…
@jbf1755 I wish we had a news media that would call it out for what it is. It seems it is always "Wow, look what the Republican legislators did. Isn't that something? We will be back after the break with a story about the latest must have barbeque gadget...." so frustrating. We are in real peril.

But what if it becomes more ordinary? That’s what I fear. Everything that we have found shocking has become a regular part of the #GOP strategy. First Tennessee, now Montana, and there is no way this won’t happen again.

@jbf1755

Montana Republicans: Yes, but let’s waste the limited time afforded us to do the people of Montana’s business by passing a law picking on a small group of kids to deprive them of their rights, and silence one of their most effective advocates on trumped up charges!

“Members are under a tight deadline in the coming days. Montana's Constitution says it must adjourn in a matter of days, and they've yet to finish piecing together a budget.”

@jbf1755 holy totalitarianism, batman
@jbf1755
Sounds like Rep. Zephyr is not "politically correct" enough for the Montana Republicans, and being such snowflakes, they need to silence her.

@jbf1755
🔸Seems to be on brand for GOP. Was reminded that state Sen. Blaise Ingoglia filed a bill (SB1248) that would eradicate the Democratic Party in #Florida.
"If the bill were to become law, it would take effect July 1."

Republicans In Florida Are Trying To Get Rid Of The Democratic Party

A new bill would “cancel” the Democratic Party and make it re-register under a different name.

So they're trying what they did (and failed) in Tennessee, and doing it in Montana now? I have a feeling this will go just as well for them. Kinda want them to keep trying, they're making celebrities out of previously unknown state lawmakers.
@jbf1755 Maybe the Montana legislators need to read up on Tennessee politics.
@jbf1755 Or as they like to say in Montana, no taxation without representation - so one might expect that the people in Zephyr's district might refrain from paying state taxes.
@jbf1755 I heard on MSNBC, I believe that is where I heard it, that she can access the chambers electronically and can vote that way, but she is not allowed to enter the chamber. what a bunch of cowards! It is ridiculous. Her crime "decorum"- just like the Tennessee 3. If they cared about decorum they would be furious about Jan. 6, but they arent'
@jbf1755
Non-rhetorical question, from someone who doesn't understand: how is that even legal? If voters have put members there, how can other members remove them?

@jbf1755 they saw that expulsion did not work in Tennessee so used a different ploy to suppress opposition.

Her district should shut them down.

This calls for the kind of civil unrest we had in '60s and '70s. It's the same shit. Nixon declared all oponents of the VN War to be "dirty hippies" (now it's "antifa"). I was watching a woman in a peasant dress putting flowers in rifle barrels at a peaceful march on the Pentagon when a tear gas grenade popped behind me.
Make them do that.
