Updating myself on #gnulinux free/libre #audio software after 10y. WOW! 🤯 (stopped using proprietary software 20y ago, around Reason2.0)

- 20y ago: "Audio on #linux?! what? where? haha" 🌑

- 15y ago: "so frustrating.. it may never work.." 🌒

- 10y ago: "ah if only someday.. some stuff is *really interesting and promising*.." 🌓

- today: WOW. 💥🌕💥

Most interoperable audio platform ever! Such polished software! So much dedication+love!

❤️

Best showcase/evidence of #free/libre sw on long term! <3

Among the most amazing pieces of free/libre software I tested in the last few months (but not limited to...) are:

-#Ardour 7.0 (wow! remember launching versions 1.0 then 2.0!! so featurefull, flexible, robust now!)

-#SurgeXT, one of many new free/libre synths, part of the https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/ suite

- #Bespoke, incredible DAW reminding of AudioMulch (!)

- #Hydrogen, one of the first mature audio software that gave me hope 15y ago, as a drum machine.

-#Vitalium

yet didnt touch #VCVRack...

Surge

Surge XT is an open source hybrid synthesizer

An immense shoutout to
@unfa, whose consistency, patience and persistence at creating detailed howto videos proved to be of invaluable help in my catching up with #Ardour!!

Saved me quite some time and probably mistakes... Thanks!! <3

#audio on #gnulinux is REAL! <3

@jz Similar experiences here. I use Ardour as main daw since 8 years. And I've seen so much progress in that time.
Just on a side note: I see you use calf plugins. If I remember right, people said calf doesn't treat audio material right, nicely, whatever. Have you tried the LSP-Plugins for linux? I can recommend them a lot.

#LSP #Linuxstudioplugins

What about calf-plugins?

Further reading the list goes on.

Ardour
@torstentorsten aaah wonderful thanks! (before i even asked ;)) )

@torstentorsten Oh really?? tell me more! Do you have a source for that? Seems like useful information...

Will look into the LSP

Also (and thanks for pointing them out in the thread):

- The LSP plugins are incredible!! Such good sound, such exhaustive range of parameters, much amaze!!

- Mixxx is indeed also an amazing piece of free/libre software, that matured over time like a fantastic bottle of wine! (here again i remember version 1.0 emerging!)

- Pipewire, on its way to stability, and to bind Alsa, OSS, Jack, Pulseaudio under one big umbrella... interoperability catching up with everything!

@jz pipewire really works well. better than pulseaudio imo :)
@jz go for cardinal instead of vcvrack 😸

@dvzrv WOW https://github.com/DISTRHO/Cardinal looks amazing thanks!

I hope they won't be bullied into stopping... https://aria.dog/barks/why-i-will-never-create-modules-for-vcv-rack-anymore/

Am afraid puting a finger into virtual-modular may be half as bad as puting a finger into modular..... :/

@jz upstream vcvrack is aware of the project and the cardinal project takes great care to only incorporate what it is legally allowed to.

And yeah, the #eurocrack is dangerous 😂

@jz Surge XT is sooo good! (((o)))
