There’s a shocking parallel between today’s Republican anti-abortion movement and the witch hunts of the 17th century. It has to do with both economics and political competition and is all about men achieving power on the backs of women.

Men are No Longer Burning Women at the Stake - They're Now Killing Them By "Big Government"

If it seems to you like women in Red states are the subjects of witch hunts, you’re right. And it has nothing to do with “life”: it’s all about economic and political power

@ThomHartmann
"In the late 1500s and early 1600s, women who performed abortions or provided birth control were most of the early victims of witch hunts because children were a source of cheap labor for the feudal lords, who essentially owned their serfs and their children."

I often say the same dynamics are at play today as the billionaires and their purchased legislators & judges know that keeping a constant flow of ignorant serfs is critical to their power. Abortion stands in their way.

“#Abortion legalization reduced the number of women who became #TeenMothers by 34% and the number who became #TeenBrides by 20%... [L]egalization reduced #MaternalMortality among #Black women by 30-40%..”

I have not checked on the correlation of economic growth and the number of witch hunts referenced in the #HartmanReport...

Of course the pompous #GreatReplacementTheory (#GRT), though the term was coined by French conspiracy novelist, #RenaudCamus, in his 2011 novel "Le Grand #Remplacement", dates back to the works of two other #French intellectuals from the 19th century,..

..Maurice #Barrès and Charles #Maurras were the main thinkers of ethnic #nationalism in the second half of the 19th century.

Background:

"Five states had legalized abortion prior to the Roe decision: in addition to Reagan’s California, the procedure was also available in Alaska, Hawaii, New York, and Washington state. As researchers found comparing statistics from those states with similar states where abortion was still criminalized prior to 1974..."

In any case, as...

@HistoPol @ThomHartmann exactly. If the pro-life cult was actually a movement they would consider evidence.
And they would support women, children. Not guns & attacking vulnerable individuals.
