So frustrating. After years of being priced too high and then also going through a complete battery recall, sales of the most affordable long-range #electricvehicles are finally strong.

Really hope they revive the nameplate for an Ultium-version and price it below $25,000. https://insideevs.com/news/664058/chevrolet-bolt-eveuv-discontinued-2023/

Chevrolet Bolt EV/Bolt EUV To Be Discontinued By End Of 2023

Production of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV duo at the plant in Orion Township, Michigan will come to an end in late 2023.

@domenick I agree. I love my Bolt. It's exactly the right size for what I need. The world needs options beyond SUV crossovers.
@aordover It's a great little car. Lots of strong points and very few weak ones.

@domenick the word β€œstrong” might not be the most appropriate, since they are only targeting 70K sales this year, which makes the Bolt something of a niche product. Much bigger numbers than that are required to make any meaningful impact.

#ChevroletBolt #EV

@ZeKik that's fair. Relatively strong would have been more accurate.
@domenick such a shame. It's a great car. Love mine! 6 years and going strong. πŸ’ͺ
@Lexcyn I'm hoping the Ultium 2.0 will bring costs down enough to make a small fun and practical hatch, but it might be several years. A shame.

@domenick It is because cheap BEVs are fundamentally impossible. GM is just playing a charade by selling one at such a huge discount.

Any future GM BEV with such a huge discount will also be destined for cancellation. #Hydrogen cars are the inevitable future due to the unsustainable nature of BEVs.

@domenick I have a feeling it will still be a few years before GM/Chevy will chase volume/low-price sales on the Ultium platform. I think they are drooling over $50k Blazer EVs and $70k Silverado EVs. I think the Equinox EV will be mysteriously mostly available in the more expensive trims, kind of like the more expensive Bolt EUV is more available now than the Bolt EV by about 10:1. Those of us that are looking for a smaller, more efficient EV (4.0 mi/kWh or better) with a smaller/medium battery, at a lower price, may have to look elsewhere. But how long will people be willing to pay for an expensive Chevy? Reminds me of the situation with Nissan and its expensive Ariya.
@domenick On a related note, traditional buyers of pickup trucks are seeking alternatives. What will Chevy do when farmers give them the proverbial middle finger? https://urbanists.social/@straphanger/110259614792335619

They've been importing mini-trucks from #Japan that do the job and cost a lot less. https://www.economist.com/united-states/2023/04/20/rural-americans-are-importing-tiny-japanese-pickup-trucks

@GeorgeMari That's a pretty niche market but I, personally, would love to have an electric kei pickup truck.
I was looking into importing one myself a few years back, with a mind to convert it.

I think there'll be some smaller electric pickups out before too long. Not kei small, but small by our standards.

@domenick Maybe the small size isn’t the appeal for American farmers, but the small price is.
@GeorgeMari it's a big part of why the Ford Maverick is so popular. Good value for money.
