On Friday MN enacted HF148.

This is the trans refuge bill.

Trans folks living in Minnesota CANNOT have their healthcare records subpoenaed to serve laws in another state that hold trans healthcare to be a crime.

Moreover, Minnesota will not admit warrants from other states based on gender-affirming "crimes."

The bill also protects the parents of trans kids who move here for their child's gender-affirming care from warrants and subpoenas from other states relating to that care.

Minnesota joins nine other states that have similar trans refuge bills.

My thanks goes to my state rep, Rep. Leigh Finke, who I voted for, for leading this initiative.

If you need to keep current on the fracturing and rapidly-changing nature of trans rights in the U.S. - if you need to know where to move to, for instance - I recommend Erin in the Morning's newsletter.

(Yes, it's on Substack. A lot of folks are locked in and there's not a great alternative.)

No, Minnesota's Trans Refuge Bill Won't "Take Kids From Parents" - But It Was Written To Stop Other States Doing That

Misinformation about Minnesota's new trans refuge bill which passed Friday was rampant, with some claiming it will take kids from their parents. This is not true.

Addendum to the thread:

It has never, historically, been a good moment for the nation when not only do states have different laws - that shit happens all the time! - but when some states refuse to permit another state from enforcing their laws.

Do you want a schism? This is how you get a schism!!

I fully support my state's trans refuge bill, I told Finke to her face that this is what I insisted she do, I want to protect trans lives. It's just bad for the country to be in this position.

I should have hashtagged this, dang it.

@sigridellis agreed! I’m proud of Minnesota that we’ve done the right thing. I’m terrified for the country as a whole that it’s necessary.
