I’m finding so many interesting posts & links about #science & #history on #Mastodon.

It’s not that this kind of content wasn’t on #Twitter, but it got lost in a sea of outrage in my feed, which was organized by algorithms, promoted tweets & ads.

The lack of those algorithms & a new chance to curate an intentional list of follows has certainly helped too. So I’m really enjoying interactions here & learning a bit along the way. (It is the Internet, so always check the sources of course!)

@Sheril the contrast is stark.
@Sheril As someone who posts a lot of science and sci-history threads on both Mastodon and Twitter, I am definitely seeing a different sort of engagement here than there. I’m finding Mastodon a lot more enjoyable.
@Sheril I agree! Mastodon is like the early days of twitter - before it got spammed with culture war fury!
@Sheril Yes, it's so nice to see posts from people who I have chosen to network with, and other posts that they think are worth sharing, rather than having an algorithm push things on me.

@Sheril

💯 - and find myself down really fascinating rabbit holes too.

@Sheril I just read this and thought, yep I'm going to follow her. And then checked and I already am. 🤪👋

@Sheril You might find more interesting posts if you actually follow some folks here. I always thought this isn't a popularity contest but hey, I might be wrong. Glad you're enjoying it.
@Sheril I do NOT miss Twitter.
@Sheril I learn so much from you.
@Sheril … even though I still miss a few people from twitter, I have the same experience here …
@Sheril One thing that was especially frustrating for me on Twitter, was putting together a long thread on some scientific pioneer who hasn’t received the credit they are due, only to have that work scraped by a big "science is awesome” account. Seeing almost none of that here.
