Republicans voted to increase the debt limit three separate times under Trump with little drama.

Now, they refuse to raise it unless the government makes it more difficult for millions of low-income Americans to get food stamps.

You can’t make this stuff up.

@rbreich How is anyone supporting/voting for these obvious villains? I don’t get it.
@rbreich And remember the word "debt" here is a misnomer: it's really just the amount of money in circulation. -https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Modern-monetary-theory-v2a.pdf
@rbreich IIRC, (and I might not) this was never an issue under Bush 43, either. It was during the Obama admin that the GOP began using the debt limit as a tool for obstruction.
@rbreich Standard SOP for them. Quietly run the contry into debt, then when the Dems get in it’s all our fault. Such BS.
@rbreich @tomwwolf Hurt the poor and protect the corrupt. Republicans are enamored by corruption and cruelty.
@rbreich Yet those low income rural folks will cheer on their own demise, no matter what total idiots it makes them look.
@rbreich Republicans had little to nothing to say about the trillions they dumped in Iraq starting in 2003. We need to hang that around their necks daily.
@rbreich Can we get a chart comparing those three uncontested raises of the debt limit with the actual increases of the debt over that time?
@rbreich And many of their supporters are on food stamps. It’s a real puzzle.
@rbreich
Robert, do you know how to drain your brain of right-wing BS?
@rbreich They did this with Obama too. They become the party of "fiscal responsibility" when their a Democrat in charge.
@rbreich Biden could end the drama for good, just #MintTheCoin
@rbreich But they always do this. Literally every time. They've been doing the same thing for *decades*.
@rbreich These tax breaks for billionaires won't fund themselves and vampires need desperate young people they can drink blood from. (Seriously, look up Musk's buddy Peter Thiel, actual vampire)
@rbreich You think folks can't make this stuff up? I'm not sure if you need a library card or a new list of catchy phrases.
@rbreich FFS. Tell us The Fourth Reich isn’t in charge without telling us The Fourth Reich isn’t in charge…
@rbreich People have made it up before, but generally as a cautionary tale
@rbreich The cruelty, as is often said, is the point.
