I hate peddling my own wares but I'm a stubborn fool who decided to make my career in the arts because I probably wasn't good for much else. Unfortunately, this makes wares-peddling kind of unavoidable. So, if you like abandoned places, I have signed copies of my first book, "Abandoned America: The Age of Consequences" on sale with a free 5x7 print. There are 30-odd chapters of photos of some of my favorite abandoned places in it, so, idk, if that's your thing here you go

@AbandonedAmerica anything specific to StL in your book?
@Brandon nope. I did have a photo of the Majestic Theater in East StL in the second book but that one's out of print so no luck I'm afraid
@AbandonedAmerica no problem, appreciate the response.
@Brandon unfortunately I spent very little time in StL. Maybe if we survive this year financially I can finally do that cross country road trip and pick up some more spots
@AbandonedAmerica just ordered! Looks great!
@TheTomBohn thank you! Hope you like it 😊😊
@AbandonedAmerica saving to buy when I can. I’m absolutely fascinated by abandoned places.
@lizlovesmusic thanks! And speaking as a financially challenged person, I bet you could get it through interlibrary loans if you wanted. I worked hard to get copies in libraries 😊
@AbandonedAmerica that’s great! I do love to support artists when I can & this is something I’d love to have. I also love photography:)
@lizlovesmusic thanks so much! I appreciate it 🥰
@AbandonedAmerica Ooooh. Ordered.
@mattblaze aw, thank you! I hope you enjoy it 🥰
@mattblaze oh, hey, hopefully you'll like the Bell labs chapter

@AbandonedAmerica

Ordered. I love your posts, so it's a natural.

@cassandracorvid thanks so much! It has a lot of places I really love in it 😊
@AbandonedAmerica
Done! Hope you sell enough.
@runkleva thanks! Unfortunately no number will ever be enough where we're at but each sale still helps 😊
@AbandonedAmerica
I know nothing about art. But one thing people are seeing in my world, public sector, are dying malls. But not quite dead. I have traveled the US and am shocked at the number of them. Maybe this is already 8n your book. But someone sho7ld be documenting this weird period in our history. What a waste of resources.
@runkleva I have many more abandoned malls on the horizon on my website!
@AbandonedAmerica Gorgeous work! I’ve bookmarked the book order form. I love exploring urban decay. It’s the only form of time travel that’s accessible.
@remedysocial thank you - and I agree. Abandoned buildings are a locus point for the past, present, and quite possibly the future also

@AbandonedAmerica "I hate peddling my own wares..."

NEVER feel ashamed at promoting yourself. Anyone who complains about you being proud of your work is toxic and you should just block them.

@csstrowbridge you know, honestly people here are pretty great about it, I think a lot of my worries in that regard are probably me projecting the fact that it bothers me that I have to do it 😬

Similar to how ‘Humans of NY’ had ‘Humans of Mumbai’ etc, I see copies of your project spawning around the world, which would actually be a good thing.

Good luck on your sales. It’d be certainly a conversation starter when found in someone’s book shelf 🙂

@AbandonedAmerica Please peddle your own wares. The fediverse is better for having independent artists like you on it.

💕

@aral Thanks so much Aral! 🥰

@AbandonedAmerica via Booktopia in Australia: Sorry, the book that you are looking for is not available right now.

PS: I'd love to buy an eBook as I really don't need more physical stuff. Happy to support your work for sure.

@voltagex thanks Adam! It appears to be in stock when I checked, there are a lot of other books that sort of cribbed the name format that are unassociated unfortunately so maybe you were looking at one of them.

While I can't promise it with this book I am looking into ebooks and hopefully will be doing something with that in the near future, at least for my second book. https://www.booktopia.com.au/abandoned-america-christopher-matthew/book/9782361950941.html

@AbandonedAmerica

So let's see... if I've understood your post correctly then people who like any of the following would enjoy your book?

#Abandoned #AbandondedAmerica #UrbanExploration #UrbEx #UrbExer #PhotoJournal #CoffeeTableBook #AbandonedPlaces #DismantlingTheDream

I haven't found any @a.gup.pe groups but I kind of think you and @abandonedberlin would vibe too (apologies if misstagged!)

@AbandonedAmerica
Self-promotion does not come naturally to most of us. It's tough. I'm glad you're doing it, though.

All the best on the sales.

@ThePsyOfLife thank you! They went so well I am honestly a bit shocked tbh
@AbandonedAmerica
Congratulations! That is great news. I'm so happy.
@ThePsyOfLife it definitely was a nice surprise. My phone was buzzing with order notifications all day
@AbandonedAmerica @Blort that’s my thing. Purchased. Glad you peddled. ❤️
@mstine @Blort thanks so much Matt! I hope you enjoy it 😊
@AbandonedAmerica I have this book and can 100% recommend!
@iBlame thanks so much! It always means so much to hear when people like it 🥰
@iBlame @AbandonedAmerica I have this book twice (one for a friend) and I recommend it doublement!
@lutzray @iBlame thank you! It makes me so happy to hear when people enjoy it 🥰
@AbandonedAmerica With the possible exception of the landed aristocracy of a bygone era, we all live by peddling our wares one way or another. Distaste for self-promotion is a becoming character trait, but quietly calling attention to the quality of your work does not make you a braggart, a sociopath, a narcissist, or a huckster. You are fortunate because the quality of your work is apparent on its face and promotes itself.
@billday thanks so much, Bill. This is a great reply as it gives me a lot to think about. I *do* feel like it's bragging, begging, etc, and I so need to re-examine that. I have to be honest, I really appreciate that the community here is so supportive and it's making me look at a few of my unquestioned assumptions about how others perceive things in terms of how I present my work
@AbandonedAmerica never apologise for your art, the capitalists might have robbed its value but the machines will restore it
