Name that birding area. #VenturaCounty
@Ottermarie I was there today. Lots of wildflowers but absolutely no herons at the settling ponds. Very strange.
@SteveInVentura wow. That's odd not to see herons. I need to swing by to see the flowers. Thank you!
@Ottermarie Some of the photos I took yesterday at the settling ponds. @ai6yr @Catlynn
@ai6yr @Ottermarie @Catlynn Here’s another duck photo. They were surprisingly camera shy. I was surprised by the limited depth of focus on the wildflower shots, but it was very overcast and I don’t normally take landscape photos, especially with a zoom lens that starts at 200mm. Need to take my old Nikon Coolpix or get another lens.
@ai6yr @Ottermarie @Catlynn A snowy egret (with dark beak & yellow feet) from yesterday as opposed the great egrets (with yellow beak & dark feet) that I normally find. It took me a while to figure out why it looked strange to me, I thought it was just that the angle of the shot was a bit different.
@SteveInVentura We saw an egret in one of the ficus trees above the college. Totally out of its usual environment. The crows were so irritated.
@Nansfruit That is so easy to believe. We have a lot of crows in our neighborhood and usually when I go in our back yard, at least one will take off and sound the alarm. We’ve seen them dive bomb the local squirrels on several occasions. They really threw a fit when a Cooper’s hawk caught a pigeon and pinned it to the ground in our front yard. This is their territory, we’re just squatters.
@SteveInVentura @Ottermarie @ai6yr Gorgeous! I better get over there this week before the weather gets hot!
